Month 5

At our place rain storm=sewing awesome for me...
So as the clouds moved in and I listened to the thunder and such...The clouds became black and then the skies open upped... And down came the rain and the pea, golf sized hail.  Yup that's right hail... Us farms/ranchers do not like hail no we do not...So as the ground got saturated and my plants got watered, I decided to do some sewing...

Well I finished the Pinwheels and the 9 patch.  I was working on the other block but I missed cut my brown for the 9 patch so I have to go and get some more brown in order to finish... That seems to be the story of my life.  Miss cutting, I always find away to miss cut at least once in a quilt... Ok maybe 2 or more times in a quilt which costs me a lot of extra money to keep re-buying the fabric that I had to begin with...

Month 4 - DONE!!

I am really not sure where I am getting all this sewing energy from.  I promised my hubby that I would cleaning around the house before I start sewing... So far I have kept the promise, I have cleaned Roy's bathroom (who knew a 4 year old could be so MESSY) - that gave me the rest to sew YES!  Cleaned the kitchenish - stove top, counters, empty dishwasher, floors - Some more sewing for me...Then this morning I woke up extra early (6 am), Cleaned the oven.... NO I don't have self clean so wishing I did.  Vacuumed the floors and Roy wanted the couch done too so we did that...

Child Labour???
So you have probably noticed his get up... Yes, he was outside feeding the horses and letting the dogs out for a run etc. as soon as he walked in the door, bam down to this... I don't know what it is with him but at least he leaves the undies on...  one thing, how do you vacuum without picking up... Well Roy learnt the hard way today, as I told him we have to pick up his stuff, well he just moved it around - why not put it away...Enough back to the quilt talk

Well I have finished Month 4 - as posted previously, I was really behind.  I am now completely done month 4 and moving on to Month 5.

Broken Dishes

More Pinwheels

Birds in the Sky

Northern Lights

So month 5 is a little different, they give you blocks etc. but you are to add them to Month 1 – APPLIQUE block…. Seeing how I am not doing the appliqué and just putting something else in its place.  I went to get the other part for this… I had it, I showed the girls because I was having issues with it.  Now it has disappeared… So I just have to build the blocks and not worry about the rest at this moment in time…So on to the hunt for this, as I have all my other Coxcomb stuff together but this on piece… Really kicking myself in the ass for losing this as I might have to go and re-purchase DAMN!!

Well till the next post

Month 3

Well I have finished my Month 3 for this Coxcomb Medallion.
This month was Pinwheels, 4 patches, and 2 samplers Oklahoma Road and Windmill.  I am now working on finishing up Month 4 which is just about done, but I stopped as I was not pressing correctly and it was just not working out the way that I wanted them too.  Month 5 I started doing my pinwheels the normal way - no paper piecing - wow does that for EVER!!!  One of the reasons for this is I ran out of toner for my printer so I could not print.  I also bought some foundation paper - for some reason I thought that computer paper would be the same... Well I guess I will have to try this once I get toner, hopefully today.

Here is a picture of my finished blocks,

Oh My...

So I see that my last post was in month 2.  Where has the time gone, well I have lost some interest in this as the center is still not appliqued and I just can't get my head wrapped round all of it... This month we are to start to put the top together with all the blocks that we have been doing each month.

I have been using the paper piecing and for some reason it is not working for me at all.  Which yet another struggle, I keep telling myself that I should just cut and sew the other way without paper piecing but then I think it is so much easier to follow the lines...

We are currently at month 5 - can you believe that...Well I finished Month 3 but did not post anything ooppps!  Well I just thought that I would let you know where I am at this and hopefully get my butt in gear to get back at the quilting.

Cheers,
Shauna

DONE!!

I am so pleased with myself... I have completed all of my applique for Month 2... My fingers are somewhat sore as I did not realize 24 blocks and 96 leaves later.  I have finished with a week to spare, I am so glad that I am done and can relax before club on Wednesday.

Seeing how I have felt really good in doing this I have attempted to start on Month 1's applique.  I have 2 of the flowers on but I do have to take one off as it is not centered...  Well I am just taking a break from applique for the rest of the week and then I will start on the big block applique.

Well until next week - have a great April

LONG Night

Last night was the 2nd club meeting and I was the only one that did not have the applique completed for month one... I was a little sad but in due time it will all be completed.

After the meeting, I met with Evelyn to show me how to applique.  It was great, I learnt so much, but I will see how much is retained when I start this big applique project...I have signed up for her class on April 4th so I will be doing this there with her supervision just in case I go really wrong.  This piece has to look perfect as it is the center of the quilt and I don't want to mess it up.

In the club we got our 2nd pattern - GUESS WHAT!!! this has applique as well - Orange Peels....  So from what Evelyn taught me yesterday, I have decided to get my templates and everything organized for this applique.. This might be my practice applique.

The pattern only calls for 2 blocks that are not applique so I will get those done and out of the way and then start on cutting the blocks for the Orange Peels (a little big and then I can down size).  We have to make 24 blocks of Orange Peels that is 96 Orange Peels that have to appliqued in ONE MONTH....I don't think that I will have this done for club but I will have a good start.

Applique...

Do to the weather that we were experiencing last week, we cancelled my one on one applique lesson...  I was really upset about this as I was really looking forward to learning this and see how much I could have done for club on the 16th..

So Evelyn is going to show me the night of club, hopefully I will be able to get it cut and based on to the fabric...  My good friend Yankee Valley Stitcher is going to try and show me as well if our time table ever seem to be available at the same time.

On March 16th it will be our second Club for the year, and I really can't wait to go as I have a few things to pick up there for some blocks that I am working on besides this one.  And meet up with another friend that I meet in Blogland - which is really cool as you are their followers but you never know if you will ever meet them or not..  Her Blog is Quilt I.T. and she is a doll, for just starting to quilt she is very good at it and She is working on the Bicycles for this Club, check out her blog the Bicycles look great!!

Hopefully next weekend I can show you some of my applique that I have gotten done even if it is just based on the background.

Pinwheel Fixed

I have fixed my pinwheels, and now I have 12 - 3" pinwheels.  I am so excited that I have these completed and now I can just focus on doing the applique for the rest of the time...
But, they are not trimmed yet as I don't think they are correct.  The paper piecing should be easy to do but I was so right on that I did not allow myself any give and I think some might be out a little.  So if there is any material left over I might have to redo some the old way....

Month 1

So for month 1 we need to do the following:
Center Applique set on point
12 – 3” Pinwheels
2 – 6” sampler blocks – Evening Star, Friendship Star

As in my first post, I don't know how to applique so I have signed up for a class...  Waiting for the class I have decide to do the Pinwheels and Evening and Friendship Stars.  Since I have gotten really good at Half Square Triangles I thought that is was going to be easy as pie...  Well they through a little loop into this, you can do your HST for the pinwheels and stars by paper piecing...  Well I don't like things always the same, as I am always willing to try different things and I thought that paper piecing should be easier then all that cutting, right...

So I went to working cutting my squares for the paper piecing, I then followed the instructions for how to sew and bam all my HST are completed - wow that did not take very long at all.  Still not convinced that this is the way I want to continue making the HST.

I have completed the Stars

I have finished the pinwheels as well, but I only got 6 correct so I have to rip out 6 as they are incorrect....

Well I will fix the other 6 on a different day.  Till then.

First Post

Well I have joined a group called Girls Gang over at Traditional Pastimes.  This is a Jan Patek group but for this year some are doing her new designs and other are doing a different quilt called Coxcomb Medallion by Susan Garman.  Well I was very hesitant on both of the projects, as Jan's instructions are not the greatest and they can cause great confusion for an in-experienced quilter.  The Coxcomb Medallion has this HUGE applique section that is the center piece of the quilt - I have no clue how to applique so I was really tossed as I did not want to hate this quilt as much as I hate my Gone to Texas (as I did not know how to do HST).

By the time the club was over, I decided to do the Coxcomb Medallion!!  One of the ladies at Traditional Pastimes is doing an Applique course in April and she is full but will allow me to come in - what a very nice lady to allow me in - who knows nothing about applique to come in to a full class.

Then on Thursday,  I received a phone call from her and she was thinking of me and how the applique class is not until April and how I probably want to start on the club applique so we talked and we are going to meet on March 2 for a one on one lesson on how to applique....  What a very nice lady, to take time out of her evening to help someone that they barely know.  This touched me in such away that I don't think I will ever forget.  So if you are ever in Calgary and looking for a place to find some fabric, notions, friendship, clubs whatever it is in Quilting that you need or want PLEASE stop by Traditional Pastimes and check them out, they are all supper FRIENDLY.

Here is the Quilt that I am going to be working on for the year!  It looks hard but really I think it should be pretty easy except for the applique.
